In architecture, typology is the classification of (usually physical) characteristics commonly found in buildings, according to their association with different categories. Individual characteristics form patterns. Patterns relate elements hierarchically across physical scales (from small details to large systems).
In the pdf, you will find an understanding of the word typology in an architectural context. After reading the essay by Andrea Kim, look at the project titled Domestic Hats by Jennifer Bonner to further understand how to experiment with typologies.
