There are 1.2 billion people in the world who lack access to electricity, therefore limiting their equipment for cooking, yet we are surrounded by different forms of energy which can provide service to society. By focusing on methods of energy generation, energy harnessing and energy transfer, students in this studio will develop their own versions of kitchen utilities by harnessing the power of potential and kinetic energy; wind, solar, hydro et al. These devices, which may or may not be recognizable, are capable of use off-grid, enabling a portable kitchen which could be deployed in any environment where they can find energy. Spoiler alert - energy is everywhere!
